For those delegates interest in, two tutorials will be organised at INSA on Tuesday 1 and Friday 4, April 2014. The first one will be dedicated to the preliminary design of electromechanical actuators. The second one will address the virtual prototyping of electromechanical actuators.
For those delegates interested, two tutorials are proposed the days before and after the R3ASC'14 conference:
The tutorials will be held at INSA Toulouse (see directions at www.insa-toulouse.fr), 135 Avenue de Rangueil, 31077 Toulouse Cedex 4, France.
The number of places is limited to the first registrations. In case of a huge demand, the tutorials will be given twice (on the 1 and on the 4 April).
The registration fee for one tutorial is 180 €. It includes the morning and afternoon coffee breaks, the lunch and the printed copy of the tutorial slides. Each tutorial will start at 9 am and finish at 5.30 pm.
Tutorial 1. Preliminary design of actuators, by Associate Professor Marc BUDINGER
Abstract: The tutorial concerns the preliminary design of electromechanical actuators in the field of aeronautics. The main design drivers, the design parameters and the degrees of freedom that can be used for preliminary design and optimization will be firstly described. The different types of models and their combination for the implementation of a model-based preliminary design process will be detailed for electromechanical actuation systems:
The case study will then deal with the sizing and the optimization of the attachment points and of the transmission ratio for a secondary flight control actuator.
Once having addressed the architecture and the design procedure, the tutorial will enable the attendees to proceed with the preliminary design and the optimization. The simulations will be run in the Modelica/Dymola environment while the sizing procedure and the optimization will be implemented into Excel spreasheets. There is no special requirement for a prior experience in simulation with Modelica..
Tutor: Marc Budinger, alumni of the ENS Cachan (Paris), has received the Agregation degree in Applied Physics in 1998, the Ph.D degrees in Electrical Engineering from Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse in 2003. He is now associate professor with the Mechanical Engineering Department of INSA Toulouse. His research activities have included design of electrical submarine propulsion motor, piezoelectric actuators, MEMS. His current research topic deals with modeling and simulation for the preliminary design of electromechanical actuators.
Tutorial 2. Virtual prototyping of actuators, by Professor Jean-Charles MARE
Abstract: The tutorial aims at providing the delegates with best practises in the system level modelling and simulation of aerospace actuators, with special attention to the mechanical power transmission part. A detailed description of electric motors and motor power drives is out of scope of this tutorial that will only involve basic models of these elements. Although the tutorial is not software oriented, the case studies will be simulated within the LMS-AMESim environment which enables fast implementation and exploitation of the models. However, there is no special requirement for a prior experience in simulation with AMESim and the practices and modelling approaches can be easily re-used within other simulation environments.
A system level virtual prototype of an electromechanical actuator will be developed in order to make the attendees feel step-by-step the influence of both functional and parasitic effects. In this attempt, the following effects will typically be considered:
Special attention will be paid to energy consumption, natural dynamic behaviour, back-driving, protection against overloads and generic principles of control.
During the tutorials, best practices in modelling and simulation will be suggested and common analysis tools will be introduced (batch, linear analysis including animated modal shapes, design exploration, solver statistics and activity indexes).
Tutor: Pr Jean-Charles MARE got his French engineering degree in mechanics in 1982 at INSA Toulouse. He spent one year as a ground test engineer at CEAT Toulouse (the French ground test centre for aircraft components) working on aerospace hydraulic components for power generation and flight controls. In 1993, he got the French Doctorat d'Etat dealing with the modelling, the simulation, the identification and the control of electrohydraulic actuators. Pr MARE has acquired more than 25 years experience in system level simulation of aerospace actuators and actuation systems. He has been involved in industrial and research projects for commercial aircrafts, helicopters, weapons and test benches. His field of expertise for the system level modelling and virtual prototyping concerns essentially the hydraulic and mechanical power transmission and control.
